Hi, I’m Marni
I came to the Palatinate (the Pfalz, in SW Germany, just outside Kaiserslautern) thinking I'd be here a couple of years. That was eight years ago. I'm still here, still finding more, and now completely in love with this corner of Europe.
EuroLYF is my love letter to all of it. The slow mornings. The little villages you'd never spot on a top-10 list. The bakery where the woman behind the counter knows your order. The lived-in Europe you only start to see once you stop being a tourist and start being a neighbor.
This isn't a travel blog. It isn't a wine account either, though my backyard is unfairly good for it: I live thirty minutes from the Deutsche Weinstraße and within easy reach of six wine regions (Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Nahe, Mosel, Alsace, and Baden). So yes, the wine is good and yes, it ends up in the stories.
But what you'll find here is the Europe I live: slow travel, life in Germany, the kind of places worth driving an hour out of your way for.
I'll also tell you upfront: I'm probably one of the few travel bloggers who will openly admit, I hate solo travel. An occasional spa retreat on my own? Sign me up. But everything else?
Travel, for me, is about making memories with the people I love. So most of what you'll find here is written with that lens: trips worth taking with someone, places worth sharing a table, & drives worth filling a car with.
Every day I feel blessed that my life feels like a vacation. This is the life I found.
Auf das Leben! (To life!)

Why I Stayed
The truth is, I didn't move here chasing a dream. I came worn down. I'd spent years pushing at ceilings that wouldn't move, in a job heavy with the kind of politics that make you question your own worth, and I was tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix. Somewhere along the way I'd started measuring myself by the approval of people who, I finally understood, didn't matter.
But living here gave me a quiet reset.
It wasn't dramatic. It was a slow process. Finding a village with no reason to be on a list. Finding a life that asked me to be present instead of impressive. For the first time in a long time, I was looking out my window, genuinely happy to be exactly where I was.
That's what I stayed for. The castles, the friends, the hikes. And ,most importantly I stayed because I found purpose here: living each day fully, taking real pride in a life that is one I chose, and helping other people find that same feeling.
That's the heart of EuroLYF. It's why every story carries the life you find. It is the moments when you realize your life is a vacation and you no longer need to escape from it. Life is short. Start living. #LifeYouFind.
Who I Write For
I think about three kinds of people every time I sit down to write.
The ones who must be here. Military families, hi, I see you. Landing in the KMC (Kaiserslautern Military Community) near Ramstein is a special, weird, wonderful experience, and I've got you on the daily-life stuff nobody tells you about.
If you're a woman in the KMC, our private Ladies in KMC Facebook group, is a great way to get involved. I also run KMC Life & Connect, which is open to the community.
The ones who want to be here. Future expats, retirees, slow travelers settling in for extended stays, anyone planning a move or a long season in Europe. I write about the good, the hard, and the worth-it, whether you're here for two months or want to be for twenty years.
The ones who can't be here yet. Travelers and dreamers following along from a kitchen table back in the US, planning Italian pasta tables or mapping Christmas markets for your first bucket list trip and searching for ways to cram as much in as possible. You're a big part of the reason I write.
Everything here comes from real life. Mine. No fluff for the sake of ad money. I only partner with brands I actually use and recommend places or products I genuinely think are good. No recycled generic top-10 lists spit out from an AI tool. I do use AI to help edit and to make things beautiful and tidy for social, but my goal is for most every article to be more human (and more me) than machine.
The world changes fast, so double-check details when something really matters or before you plan travel. The fine print lives on the terms page.
Meet Kobe
Hi. I'm Kobe.
Marni had wanted a golden retriever for years, and she looked for a long time before she found me on a farm outside Munich. When she came to meet the litter, only my sister and I were left, and I was tearing around like a lunatic. That's the moment she decided. Apparently I was exactly her kind of crazy.
We've made a lot of memories since. I'm the co-pilot, the one with strong opinions about which benches have the best view and which cafes will let me under the table (more than you'd think, this is Germany). I'm still young, though, which means there's a lot more of this dog life left to find, and a lot more places I fully intend to visit.
So if a spot made it onto this site, odds are I approved it first.
Auf das Leben, from me too.
Kobe
Say Hi!
If you're a reader with a question, a recommendation I have to try, a village I have to drive to, or a story about your own European life you want to share, my inbox is open. Same goes for fellow bloggers, expats, military spouses who just landed, or anyone planning a trip and wondering where to start. I read everything, even when life means I'm slower to reply than I want to be.
